House washing pictures....

Just in,
Here are 3 shots taken before, during, and after, a house I cleaned just before Thanksgiving. The lift was an economical 125.00 for a 1 day rental. By picking it up on Friday afternoon I was able to keep it untill Monday morning for the price of a 1 day rental. I rented it from Hertz, its called a Genie Trailer Mounted Boom, model TMZ-34/19. It was a real labor savings on this job as you can see from the pictures. Hertz is a national company and probably has locations in your area. What do y'all think?

Glenn,

Used a similar lift last year on a commercial job I did for the Army reserve. The only thing I can say I didn't like is that you had to be perfectly level or this damn alarm would set off and stay on unit you leveled out correctly.

Nice lift for the money you spend though. Did you do the whole house with it or just the front? I found that these types are a problem with some residential yards also.

Nice job though on the house...looks good!

Hey rvagnoni,
Luckily I was able to walk the roof of the 1st floor wrap around porch for most of the 2nd story. Basically I just used the lift for the section shown in the picture. One negative about the lift is as you said the fact it must be set up and leveled every time you move it. It took me 20 minutes to set it up in the location in the picture. From there I was able to get the whole gabled front which was my whole purpose for getting the lift. With 10' ceilings on both floors, the house stands a few feet taller than a typical 2 story home.
For a little history, the house is located in Washington, NC. It was originally the home of the Washington Militia before the Civil War. During the Civil War, the house was used as a Confederate Hospital. It has been moved several feet from its original location and is now situated a few hundred yards from the Tar River and is a private residence. I believe the homeowner told me the house was built around 1820. Well built house that was a pleasure cleaning. Out of all my jobs this year I probably enjoyed this one the most. I just wish I had more of these to do! In time hopefully.

Tim,
Job took me 12 hours. I started at @ 8 am Saturday and finished it Sunday morning. Could have done it all in 1 summer day, but the days are getting shorter now. The spindles on the porch railings probably took up the most time. It was my first time using the lift. I practiced with it in the back yard the day before so I would be comfortable with it at the job site. It is electric (battery powered) so it was real quiet and smooth. Only draw back is the set up time. Next big house I get I want to try the diesel models on wheels that can be manuvered from the basket. If you have a lot of moving around to do, those are the ticket. Only thing is those have to be delivered and picked up by tractor trailers, which adds a delivery and pick up charge to the invoice. I priced one on a seal job I bid on a few weeks ago and a Friday drop 50 miles out with a Monday morning pickup plus the rental was going to run me about 6 or 700.00. The trailer unit was more practical for this job. Bigboy has a good point though, I have seen those side arms with baskets on the side of some vans, you know like the telephone co. uses. Something to think about?

Did you do this all by yourself or did you have helpers? Just curious because my guys complain when I send them out to do MUCH smaller sized houses alone.

Maz,
Limonene through downstream, and high pressure rinse with 40 degree tip. I used hot water also, mainly because it was a cold day. No brushing.
