i've got a house with severly mildewed wood eaves and chalky aluminun siding. bleach cocktail gets mildew but takes paint off of siding. from reading in archives, it looks like any chemical, or even just pressure, will take chalky paint off of aluminum siding.

anyone got any ideas about how to rid eaves of mildew without taking any more paint off the siding?

any recommendations of the best paint to use where i've washed off the old paint? how best to prep surface? how best to apply paint? can i just touch up the places i've removed the paint from, or do i need to paint the entire side of the house? (or the whole damn house)?

it's good to be back here. my computor blew and i lost all my favorite places and i could not for the life of me remember the name of this bulletin board. all my search efforts took me to delco's. my hour of searching this morning finally paid off.

thanks for the help!

We just did a heavy mildewed stucco sided house with wood eves last week. The house was 2story with a walkout.
The only reason we needed a ladder was to get above the porch to the 2nd story. Anyway with the chlorine/linonene mix and a xjet we were in and out in 2hrs and I bid it at 5hrs so that time we made out well. We sprayed the mix on and in about 2-3mins the mold was gone. Then we rinsed.

Your problem is the siding. We always have it in writing about the possibility of getting to bare metal if the oxidation is too great.
It kind of covers our tail alittle bit.
As far as cleaning with the bleach I wonder if you could neutralize the siding with oxalic acid then apply the bleach then rinse.
Make sure you keep the windows and metal rinsed very well.
Do a test spot and see. Just a thought Tim Highfield
