Over Spray

In the fall of this year, I stripped and restained an older deck using CWF. A few weeks later the homeowner had his stucco house spray painted. The painter tarped off about a 3ft around from the house covering the deck. The over spray went beyond the tarping and there is a fine midst line running down the deck. Now that the tarps are removed, this line is very noticeable. You can see the spray midst on the deck. I am told it is a latex paint. The contractor is not doing anything about it. This is where I step in.
Does anyone know what the best method is for correcting this problem?

First try and see if it will come off with just water. CWF not the best of choice if you read around here, but becuase of it's high wax content you may luck out and find that the overspray is not biting into the sealer.

I would then go to step 2 and try a light mix of cleaner.

If that failed a redo of the deck and possibly lite sand if nessasary.

Seeing that the sealer is some what fresh you should be okay with option 1 or 2.

Tim, thanks for the input. As far as using cwf ; I thought it might the right choice becasue after stripping the deck twice, there were some areas that still had a reddish/orange stain that would not come off. Also the boards were not uniform in color and the wood was( for a lackof better wording) grooved. I thought the color of cwf-uv cedar would hide the color variation of the deck board and also allow the new finish to blend in with the old stain that I could not remove.

Sure CWF-UV will hide the less desirable wood, until it fails in about 4 months and you have to do the job over again, that is if the customer will even call you after the crap job he got.

Best to rethink the use of CWF....it is one of the poorest choices you could make.

Two popular choices are either Ready Seal, or Wood Tux. Use the search function of this board to scour information that has already been posted.

After you browse that, if you have more questions, just ask.

Wolman F&P is my favorite, however let's not forgot about our friends over at Sunbrite,I have never tried Ready Seal but I am sure Sunny at Sunbrite can provide you with more info.

I have heard good things about Ready Seal, and Sun Brite both!

I use Wolman F and P now because it is faster to apply and a good product but when I started all I used was CWF-UV cedar or clear. It is a good product and for his situation I believe the right choice. I have done the same thing when there is color that won't come off. 5 months to fail? I have never had that problem with it.

Lester,
You don't have your location filled in, so I don't know what the weather conditions are like where you're at.

Here in Michigan, CWF does not hold up well at all.

I'm very sure most of the seasoned vets around here can tell you their thoughts on CWF.....JUNK!!!!
