I Started a mobile home wash today, the customer wants me to remove the oxidized white paint from the galvanized tin to prepare the home for painting. Yesterday I wet one wall down and then x-jet-ed my house soap on let dwell for about 5 min. and then scrubbed with a soft brush, then rinsed using a turbo nozzle. this worked but is there someone out there who has done this before and has a better aproach. Please let my aching back know...

I bet the turbo was pretty loud on the galvanized, lol.

You can use a degreaser type cleaner, make it fairly strong and hotwater will usually take the ox off, wash with a 25 or 40 degree tip,it'll be faster than the turbo.

PAINT PREP

I believe it is alluminum, loud does not even come close, I will try the tip and degreaser tomorrow. But, I don't have heat right now I'm waiting on my replacement fuel pump, should be here Friday. Thanks for the help.

i would have paid the extra to get it overnight shipped. my 2 cents
for the paint prep i would use a caustic degreaser followed by TSP trisodiumphosphate[home depot]
it etches the paint so the next coat will stick to it.
might not need the degreaser test it.

BJ,

You need a cleaner that contains potassium hydroxide.
If you can find a cleaner that says potassium hydroxide and other alkaline builders, that would be the right one.
You would then apply it with a brush from the bottom up, (not letting it dry), and rinsing it off.
EverBrite makes a De-oxidizing cleaner that works real well.
I'm not real sure how much the cleaner cost, but it works very good.
I have been trying to post a tractor photo that I did just recently to show folks this procedure, but my photos seem to post to large on the site.
Maybe someone can help me post these photos and you can see how well this works.
