Phonebook screwed up

This is the second time we put ourselves in the YELLOW Book, yellow pages. This is the second time they screwed up. They put our ad in the 'decks built' section, not 'deck restore'.... long story. Anyway, we have to sign a waiver of some sort cause they're giving it to us for free... obviously.

Has this happened to anyone before? How have you been compensated?Because they screwed up last year also, I don't feel this is enough to get the ad free because it's in the wrong spot and NO ONE will see it. We'll have to spend more money advertising elsewhere now... and probably spend more than what we would have spent for the Yellow book. (The Yellow book is $50 a month and the local paper is $180. a month).

Anyone know if the phone books can/will supply their customers with mailing lists or if they sponsor other promotions other than distributing phone books? I'd love to get my hands on a mailing list.... or some other type of advertising.
I want to call them to complain to corporate, but I want to know what else they can offer me.... or what I can ask of them.

I don't know exactly what your contract states, but it they're not making you pay for it, then you're out no money, therefore, any advertising you choose to do elsewhere is technically only costing you the fee, less what you WOULD have been paying Yellow Book. This might be a dumb question, but, are you going to call them again next year? This is the second time they've screwed up if I read that right. You must have gotten calls from the first messed up ad or you would not have called them for this year ? Somebody will see your ad......get a magnetic made up for your truck saying something like .... See Our Ad in the Yellow Book on Page whatever.

Unfortunately, in the advertising end of business, there's a whole lot of live and learn - sucks too. I'd be looking for another book.

There's 2 phone books out here, SBC and Yellow Book. I think we'll make our ad bigger in Yellow Book and insist they eat up some of the costs for it, since they screwed up twice. How many times can they possibly screw it up? I'd rather place the ad and screw it up than not place the ad at all. We're recommending a new salesperson this year.

Surprisingly, we get more calls from the local newspaper than the phone book. However, the paper is much more per month, but we are only in business 5-6 months a year so we don't have to pay for a whole year in the paper.

We sent out 30 reminder notices 2 weeks ago... we are up to 8 people calling us back!!! What a great response!

Yellow Book

Two years ago, Yellow book messed up ours. They put 20 degree hot water instead of 210 degree. Looked pretty stupid but anyway, they gave me a big discount.

We have been left out of the directory before, 2 times in
26 years.

The contract did not allow for damages.

We spent a lot of $ on newspaper ads those years.
