If you see a lot of curbs in your future why not make a tool for the job?

Envision a two wheeled tool. One wheel rides on the lower outside edge the other rides on the top outside edge of the curb.

I'm not trying to speak for B.E Young Sr, but with him using the words "make" and "envision" I don't think he was talking about making a trip to the store...

I don't think a tool like this would be hard to make at all... I guess it depends on how handy a guy is though.

While on the topic of tool idea, one that I have is to convert an old snow blower into a machine. My thought is to run a brush on a surface cleaner swival instead of the snow throw blades. Then have some nozzels on the bar that spray onto the concrete in between the brushes. I would think a setup like this would work great on greasy parking spots. Maybe... Maybe not

Or better yet, how about a surface cleaner with brushes on the bottom as well as the nozzels. Use like a carpet floor machine and plum in some jets on the bottom...

Another one that I have is turning my riding lawnmower into a super riding surface cleaner... Just think how fast you can do those parking garages then... Make a 48" riding surface cleaner for a few bucks... sounds nice...

haha... Ideas and Toys...

1st- I don't consider myself a newbie. I have been doing this work for a couple years now and have been on this bulletin board since then. I just haven't done many jobs with a lot of curb work. Most homes and driveways don't have curbs!
Like I said in my post. Take something that you have done that is "similar" and apply that to this bid. IT's just a matter of common sense. We ALL have to make bids from time to time on jobs that we have never done before. However we can't all come running to the boards to see how to price it. It's not in the best interest of YOUR business to rely on others to tell you how to price your business.
2nd- The majority of people who post here are extremely helpful to even the ones just getting into the business. Not that I fall into that catagory. I am sorry to see (by your post), that your NOT one of those helpful professionals.
Heh, Well I'm sorry you see it this way. Perhaps in a few years your perspective will change. What you need to realize is my post tell you to learn & touch on how to go about learning how to price. If you took the time to realize this & to expand upon it you would find my advice much more helpful than someone that would tell you to bid $o.XX persqft & it takes 10hrs to do it.
3rd - You obviously didn't read my posts very well. I did state how much curb there was. And yes I have already did my own test to see how much curb I can do an hour.
Your right I missed the footage that you noted in your "4th" post regarding this. My Mistake! I apologize for making a mention of a footage issue where I stated the several reasons there are that we are inable to give an accurate price for the job.
4th - If you don't have anything beneficial or positive to say; don't say anything.
I suppose that beneficial is or positive is a matter of perspective. Others here seem to agree with my post.
I, unlike, you would gladly share my information to anyone in need.
HUGE mistake. Sharing information as such is non-productive. There is little chance that you could know everyones markets thus you have no idea wether or not your pricing is applicable to others. Some that may be asking for pricing may have NO CLUE as to what is involved in running a business thus they may take your pricing and apply it to their own business. What happens when your pricing is only %50 of what they should be getting? The go under, & hurt other legitimate contractors in the process by lowballing them just to go bankrupt in the process! What happens when your pricing is %50 more than they should be getting. They go under from lack of work.

In addition. Making the statement that you would "gladly share your information with anyone in need" should send a RED FLAG out to others that would help you via emails. Many people here help in the back channels sending confidential emails to people in order to keep some little tidbit from breaking ranks onto the forums. Here you have openly stated that you would give such tidbits away. Another reason I tell people to be careful whom you help. This is not to say anything negative about you. You may be a great guy, it's nothing personel

PS. No offense here, just an FYI. It's considered by netizens to be ill etiquette, rude, to type in "all" CAPS when there is no call to do so.

Your to late. Its already made. The 120 degree bracket is made of stainless steel and is connected to a lawnmower wheel. It has 2 1.5 nozzles that are ajoined by 3/8" plastic tubing. I use a quick connect socket to direcly hook it to my wand. It works great. Thanks for the idea.

WFSTOTT,

I have had a patent working on this for the past 18 months.

Infringment will be strickly enforced since a major manufature is involved!

Erasing your posts won't releive you of the legal ramifications.

You see once the patent is filed and is accepted I can talk about it as much as I want.

No one can build it and infringe unless a license and royalties are paid! Hell I never actually have to build more than one unit.

You didn't think i was going to let my 12K investment go that easy did you?

Oh yeah my computer is backed up twice a day, so I have all your posts.

Through your IP adress your location will be revealed.

God nothing makes me feel better than seeing a big grin on my lawyers face after talking.

I know that is a money smile!

So don't get to happy Old Bud!

:D

Ha, Ha, Ha . Call 1-800-Lawyer. Go for it!

I think I remember Dan S. reminding me of the phrase "Don't ever kick a gift horse in the mouth". Let me think for a minute. Oh thats right, you were that horse.

Good day.

LOL What a funny Thread this is coming out to be...

What kind of a guy goes back and edits his messges to delete what he posted? No offense, but seems like a coward to me... A man that can't and won't stand by his own words.

Do you think we could turn this into a class action suit?

I'll have my lawyer contact your lawyer and see what we can do...

Sheesh... the times we live in!

Guys,
I have no problem if someone uses the idea for their own use.

If they try to market the idea it is a differant story.

This fella seems like a sneaky snake.

I have incurred a lot of expense pursuing this.

When a potential contract is pending with a manufaturer you can rest assured all parties will protect their interest.

I'm trying to figure out of any of this is serious or is it just all a joke. Seems to me that if you were trying to patent something you wouldn't be telling anyone how to make it. Odd!

I take it it's all just a joke.

Im pullin my hair on this one myself

First he mentioned a "tool" ...... and told us how to make it .. Then pop a cork b/c somebody beat him to it and said .. "What a great idea ..Thanks for all your help ".........

I know A thing or 2 about patents myself ... And it states ..... If you go public with an Idea ( which was done ) before it gets patent . It's open game for anybody.

I think Young is just having some fun !!

Envision a two wheeled tool. One wheel rides on the lower outside edge the other rides on the top outside edge of the curb.

The axle is stainless tubing formed to shape of the curb.

There is one nozzle for the top and one for the botton attached to the tubing.

Each nozzle is 2,000 psi 2 gpm each.

Spray height is adjustable to match the width of the top and bottom of the curb.

Your wand attaches to the tool.

If you want to be real slick attach this to your front bumper using an air cylinder and drive with a water tank and rig in the truck bed!

Or attach to a four wheeler and pull a small trailer!

I guess this makes me sound lazy, but I beleive in working smarter not harder!

Hey do those curbs have side walks adjoing them?

Sounds like it is open for anybody to do .... If you really wanted this contraption.Sorry Young but your argument wont stand up in court.

I agree with your post Dan S. However, enen though your right, I am really not interested in trying to steal somones patent. This all got started because I misread someones post with the word "Envision" in it.
I obviously read his post way to fast and thought that "Envision" was the name of a company that already made such a device. My mistake. I guess theres a name (Envision), B.E Young can call his company or his new invention.
