Im cleaning roofs on big resort Im going to be using chlorine and neutralizing runoff with soda bicarb or sodium sulfite. what will the neutralizers do to the plants. the duck cleaned the roofs last year and killed all the plants. I have got the job on yearly if I dont kill all the plants. any help would be great.

My advice,
Don't use chlorine. Use a low concentration of sodium hydroxide and let the low pressure clean the roof. Then neutralize the run off with a mild acid like oxalic at the same concentration as the cleaner.

Greg,
I would agree with Glenn in using the sodium hydroxide. That will clean the roof. My recommendation though if killing the plants is the customers high concern is to first drench the plants in water. Then wash the roof. Then rinse the roof. Then hit the plants again with water. This should do the trick. We have not killed a plant yet!
Good Luck

Greg, where in Fla are you? I am in ft laud area. I havent killed any plants myself, and I use chlorine quite often. I dilute it 50 50 then inject it through my downstream injector, and havent had any problems at all. I do make sure to soak everything good below me then use a bit of chlorine, let it sit for a few minutes, then just water. After that I give the roof another quick coat of the solution and I am done. Good luck!

Sodium hydroxide is not an option. It takes to many steps to use it. 5 story roofs Im only getting on them one time. I use a 70% mix chlorine to water/soap dont need to rinse, just worried about runoff.
