Shurflo AC/DC

...For those about to rock....WE SALUTE YOU!!!!!!!!...oops sorry..and now back to the question...I am ditching the pump up sprayers, Going Shurflo...OH yeah baby let it flo!!! Ok so what route should I take? I plan on using the diaphragm pump for ALL chem application. Big questions here...Should I go AC or DC...I just installed a GFI receptacle on my machine ( $200 extra option at purchase..cost me 10 bucks and some dremel work)

I run 200 feet of HP hose...Should I mount the shurflo AC on the trailer and run 200 ft of LP chem hose? Or should I do the Chem cart DC set up?

What are the advantages/disadvantages of both set ups?

I prefer the chem cart with less hose. Running 200' of poly on a Shurflo puts out too little chemical in my opinion. I have never used one of the A/C pumps though.

I have both set-ups. The AC pump gets VERY hot with 200 foot of hose. The out-put is not much higher..of course that has more to do with my flow rate. I like the DC version much better.
Here's a tip. Go to a boat store and buy a marine battery that can be laid down without problems. That way, you can mount the battery anywhere you want on your cart without risk of acid getting everywhere. These bats. cost a few bucks more but worth the extra penny at time savings...trust me.

also, with 200 of hose and a chem tank..you are limited to what you already have in the tank...chlorine when you need acid..etc.

I carry three five gallon pails and use those for mixing chems...and wash them out...BUT I only use the acid pail for acid..chlorine for chlor...you get the point.

also, I bought a marine battery charger that stays connected to my marine battery...I simply run a chord from the garage to the cart once every few nights...bingo..problem solved.

Thank you,
Looks like I will go the DC Route.

Who Has some pictures/Specs of carts? The Decster is nice, pricey but nice and shipping would just make it out of my league. That fancy stuff is for the big timers. [hello]

broken

Bought a shurflo from northern tool.Came with 26gal. tank, switch, hose, wand, everything, but the battery and cart.$299.Used it once for degreasing a car dealership shop floor, then rinced it out.Resturant patio, sodiomhydrochlorite, then rinced.Oxalic acid then rinced. Go to do a house wash and it died on the first wall. Was well rinced, and all was done within a week.Any advice.Or was what I did stupid???????

I have 200ft of 1/4 high psi hose on a reel and I too use a toggle switch wired to the battery on the powerwasher.I use flo-jets,think its 2.5gpm at 100psi,they makem with different type seals for the stronger type chemicals.

Learning Curve

Thanks guys. That is the whole reason I come here! It sure makes the learning curve a lot shorter.

i use the viton seals as well but when applying any acids i use a commercial pump up sprayer ,it may not be the most efficient but it saves my equipment

I use flojets and put acid through them all the time. Maybe once a year I will need to change out the check valves. Viton seals and a hydrochloric acid based cleaner. The QC and guns don't last but the pumps handle ok.

I have been told recently that using acid then say chlorine is a prob...but if you use acid only and rinse every time, they will last. i do not know if this is true but it does make some snese.

I have been thinking about making a spray cart too- looking into pumps and found that most Shur-Flos will do OK, but you can't get one with Buna-N seals. Viton seals and diaphragms are the most chemical resistant. Good luck!

Three years now using Oxalic Acid on decks, My Shurflo has the Vitron Seals, The pumps are like 59 bucks if you shop right. I go through 1 to 2 a year and allways have an extra new one in the truck. When I was using pump ups I would gop throught 4 to 5 a year at 49 bucks a wack. The math is easy at this point. I shoot oil based sealer once and a while and thats what kills my pumps. My current unit is from last year and still going strong.

Oxalic Acid? I shoot maybe 200 gallons give or take a few a year and deck detergents no trouble at all.

Power unit? I use one of those slick Car Battery Booster packs The nice ones 650 amps has two DC outlets and I just cut a DC cord from Rat Shack and add two gator clips. Nice carrying handle and jumps my truck in winter. I also mount the Shurflo right to the boster ... I think I have the plans in the tips area still...

Good luck
