I know a lot of you guys out there like to use HF when you clean aluminum trailers. Well there is dangers to the product and just today I had a friend tell me of a way to help aid yourself incase you get a little on your hand. HF or hydrofloric acid is what I like to refer to as a bone eater, in other words in searches and attacks calcium. This little thing I'm going to tell you I dont recommend as a cure as I am no doctor but any of you that have got some on you hand will know what I'm talking about, it is painful. Now I still would say follow the msds and seek medical attention but you can do this before you go there.
Say you get some on your hand and your sure you washed good but your still worried because the last time it got on you you were in severe pain and you dont want that to happen again. Take a Tums antacid and crush it and put it on the area affected and wet it, then put on a latex rubber glove. What in therory (and it seems to work) happens is the HF is seeking calcium in any form, Tums is 800mg of calcium and what happens is the HF attacks it insted. I know it sounds crazy and also once again this is no substitute for the msds and its recomendations but it may save you a lot of pain on the way to seek that medical attention. Just thought you might want to know. Remember always to have the msds on hand especially if you have employees, its the law. Good luck in 2000

Thanks for that wonderfull bit of info! Especially on a windy day, HF is not the most wonderful s**** to work with. Do you have any suggestions for keeping HF off of the stainless steel part of an aluminum horse trailer? I would appreciate any comments on that one.
