Time to Play: Guess That Stain!

A company asked me to give them a bid on their offices. The problem is they have a peculiar rust stain (and I mean a lot) on brick under cedar shingles. I did learn that the building used to be a service station. The roof is tiled in cedar shingles (bad need of replacement).

Any ideas as to how best approach this one.

Thanks for your help.

My guess would be that the wrong nails were used in roof job and/or when the building was a service station they had some sort of siding on soffit/roof and covered it up instead of removal of old material and roofing, and it is now rusting.

Acid wash is what's used most commonly on brick for general cleaning

Hi Mark,

I would test before offering a bid.

Thanx Dave. That is probably the best move at this time. Should muriatic do the trick, or as a friend suggested, oxalic?

Thanx again.
