Vinyl Sided Home ???HELP??

I washed this home 10 days ago using 1.5 gallon of bleach, 1 cup of dawn, and a squirt of liquid cascade in a 5 gallon bucket of water. I Applied the chemical with an X-Jet with 15 min dwell time and then rinsed using hot water. This is my first house wash and I am concerned about the spotting as you can see if I attached the pics right. I have talked with a couple of guys and they think it has not had enough time to dry. ??10days?? of 35 to 45 degree days 20 degree nights. Has anyone ever seen this before? Any suggestions?

BJ,

I can't explain the spots, havent done much vinyl cleaning myself, but the thing that imediately caught my eye is that the spots appear to be in a pattern. It looks like to me they might almost lineup with the studs behind the siding. Maybe someone with more experience with vinyl siding can explain what caused the spots and how to get rid of them. I'd like to know the answer myself in case I run in to a situation like this.

Good luck,

Things could have happend 1 you washed in the wrong direction the overlaps must me washed so you cant get the chem behind the siding 2 you were too close to the siding
and forced the chem into the weep holes
if you look closely to where those streaks are comming from you will see the weep holes
that exsplains the pattern you are going to have to rewash this house SOON
and hope the chems didnt stain the house if they did your going to need a stronger chem to lessen the marks. do you use a wax in your rinse you should so if chem dose seep out it
should roll over the wax and not leave clean spots.

Previous post is dead on correct about the weep holes. Also, while I use a different house wash mix than you described, 15 minutes sounds like an awfully long dwell time. Perhaps it could have dried or the hydroxide burned in that time? Also agree with a rewash, applying bottom to top, rinse top to bottom. Wax in the rinse will help as well.

the bleach

i dont think that amount of bleach would do any harm but is it possable[this is your first job]
that its just cleaner then the rest where it sat longer?[or weeped out]
also you do not have a very good home made house wash. its close but what is doing the cleaning? Dawn? thats just to get the bleach to stick. bleach will not clean anything its an acid
it kills[please tell me you wore a resperator when you sprayed bleach?]
and the cascade is more for spotting[ helps prevent] on the windows.
you need to add a good truck wash to the mix IF you are hell bent on being a chemist.
There are lots of safer and sometimes more effective cleaners just for house washing.
Im guilty because i still mix my own also.
USE A SOAP THAT WILL CLEAN IN THAT MIX NOT JUST DAWN YOU CAN PUT THE WAX IN THE SOAP IF YOU WANT.
good luck

spots on siding

Bj , We had a house do allmost the same thing this past summer. In our case the spots were only on the sunny side of the house. Owner wasn't happy so we promised a rewash. Owner got a builder to look at the spots ,he pulled a piece siding and the spots lined up with the nails in the piece behind. builder said the light spots went all the way through the vinyl probably had something to do with the hot side of the house. Owner was happy and no rewash.... Andyrick

B.J.....

I believe what I am looking at is where the plastic heads of the nails and the seam of the Dow board behind the siding is allowing for heat loss from behind the siding. What time of the day was the picture taken and what were the conditions the night before? I know you mentioned the temps, but does this house get sun on that side? I really do not think it is a chemical problem. The spots are in too consistent of a pattern.

Keep an eye on it. Wait for temps to moderate...the dew point is weird at these temps.

Hey Ron...I always thought bleach is alkaline. Let me know.

Jordan,

Thanks for the reply,
Time of day 2:30 p.m. 2 hours after washing the house.
Conditions the night before 15-25 degrees (no moisture)
This side in the pic is the South side of the home (open with no shade)
The next day it did snow, but since then, we have had a couple of 50 degree sunny days, and nights in the low 20's. I thought the same thing about the heat escaping from inside the house, allowing it to dry quickly, and I know that when vinyl is heated it expands, making me think that it expanded then cooled trapping moisture inside the vinyl, but by reading the reply's from the post it seems that maybe that was just wishful thinking.
Again thanks for the help!!!!

I do a lot of siding work, to me that looks like you have revealed caulking work of some kind as opposed to weeping holes. They are to far up the pieces and look man made.
A good siding job is flawless. However, I have seen those who nail after for support then color match with caulking / paint to mask. You may have revealed that fact. Bad siding job.
Also, use bio-friendly stuff, it may cost more but you can say that it is environmentally friendly and you are clear for caustics or any other s--- you want to put on these homes.
