If you are not busy, if you don't sale products, the answer is absolutely not.
They will take you to the cleaners.
Try the Pay Pal route off of the internet.
Just make sure, if you decide to do it anyway, read the small print.
I tryed it and rarely ever used it. When I decided I couldn't afford to pay almost $80.00 a month for something I rarely used, I sent everything back. They say that according to the contract, I now owe them about $4400.00
They have everything back that has been used about twice and I owe them $4400.00?
If you don't pay them, they call you and harrass you on a regular bases.
This was about a year ago or more and I still receive calls from one of there hound dogs nearly every day, including Sundays.
If they can figure out who your neighbors are, they will call and harrass them too.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Richard R

Hope this helps.

I'm sure they have penalties built in the contract for leaving.......probably something you should have looked into before you signed up with them. Good luck.

Mike , Iwas looking into it, I have not signed up with a credit card co. But if all I washed was houses, decks , roofs etc..... for home owners. I would look in to acceptting plastic real hard !

I have one customer I wash trucks for every (2) weeks and wash there parking lot once a month and stripe there parking lot about every nine months. They pay me electronically stright to the bank it goes. by doing this it put me on there ""PREFERRED VENDORS"
list. I belive in a few years ckecks will be a thing of the pass. but I hope Mr. Cash is still around LOL!

THANKS ALOT EVERY ONE !

Mel,
I specialize in House Washing.
Make sure you wash houses for about a year before you get the plastic machines. I suppose every area is a little diffferent, but I had the credit card signs all over my truck and I think one or two people paid by card last year and they didn't really care if they gave me cash check or check. I just let them pay by card to learn how it was done. Remember, you have to pay a percentage if you do it that way, or your customer does.
I can assure you, if you don't sale cleaning Products and Parts, it would be the biggest mistake you ever made.
Think about it real hard before you make that leap.
There are a lot of things out there for the small service base business than a credit card machine, and trust me, it will take a lot more than a few years to get rid of checks.
When the checks go, the cash goes.

Talk to your bank about it. I pay $6 per month for all 4 major credit cards and this includes the machine in my office. Then I pay 2% per transaction. Some government jobs prefer this method of payment and you don't have to wait a month or two to get paid. Occasionally you'll get a customer in a bind who needs their house cleaned right away for a party or relatives coming in. Some people just like to get airline miles on their AmEx card.

I think it's worth it, and it looks professional in your yellow page ads and other marketing literature.

There you go Mel.
It sounds like Tony has the right idea.
Now this is something I would do for sure.
I think I may look into this myself. It sure beats the $65 to $80 dollars coming out of your business account every month.
Is your Bank a National known Bank. Just wondering because I don't think my Bank offers this.

Great information Tony.

Thank You

Call discover up the number should be on the back of there advertisement. I pay $10.00 a month for the use of the machine and an addtional 2.25% for every sell I use it for. Shop around. I get business because I accept it. To me it is not a waste of MONEY

I recently started accepting credit cards and this is the options that i have found,i called Discover services 1 800 347 7996
that was reccomended by steve rowlett a while back.

they offered me a system called IC VERIFY for $395 i run two buisnesses and to add another merchant account was another $150 plus they had $4.95 mo. membership fee.

second option was a software called POS-PARTNER which was $200 and had unlimited multi-merchant capabilities with no additional charges. there is a $5 mo. tech support fee

i pay a 2.07 percent charge for all transactions and incurr no additional charges whatsoever with the POS-PARTNER system and merchant services proccessing.

all i do is record the card info in the field and enter it into the computer and walla you've got money.
so far i am very happy.
