Just wanted to know when does everyone change their engine oil and what brand of oil. We prefer to change every 50 hrs with filter and use 10-30wt Castrol in all the v-twins and 30wt Castrol in all single cylinders except for Kohler: 10-30wt again' do to there hydraulic lifters and hard starting in colder climates.

Also do you use OEM oil filters or aftermarket filters. We use a aftermarket for most except when asked. The filters we use are from a company that makes 83% of the filters for the OEM's.

We use only OEM air filters due to several aftermarket failures causing dirt ingestion.

Thanx for the Input!

That is great the first time you change the oil after that they recommend every 200 hours unless you are in a high dust environment. CAUTION

DO NOT PUT THE SAME OIL IN THE PUMP! Use Non Detergent 30 weight oil in the pump. The other stuff can dammage your pump.

It will foam up and the oil will get air in it. Then it will not lubricate the moving parts good enough. The pump has a vented oil system. An engine has a pressure oil system . So the oil must be different.

Guess I should have been more clear. When do you cahnge engine oil? Briggs recommends the first oil change after 5hrs and every 50hrs there after. Pump oil we change at 100-200hrs or before if they decide to wash the vent hole.

You can use other filters if you want. It won't hurt anything. Wix makes one and so does Fram.

Looks like I either waste money or love changing oil.

I change my oil and filter every 25 hours, looks like I can do it every 50 now and not worry.

I use Amsoil pure synthetic oil and have a drain tube so I never spell oil when draining.
I put a spin on filter adapter so filter comes off without spilling all over the engine too.

Now about the pump, I have not done that yet and can tell it will be a bitch to do.

Anyone ever wonder why they put the drain plug in the back with the glass view window also facing backwards.

I wonder if they could redesign it so it is on the side?

Want to know an easy way to see that siteglass? I found the answer in my bathroom trash can. My wife threw away a Cover Girl makeup compact. That thing is perfict for my tool box. The mirror is protected by a closing cover. You have no idea how many inspection mirrors I have broke throwing them in the tool box. I have had this one for 3 years. Just open that thing up and stick it between the pump and engine holding it by the lid and BINGO seeing that dirty old siteglass is no longer a problem.
