I don't particularly care for fishing either. As the majority of folks on this board will tell you - if I want to know something, I'll ask. If I have an opinion, I'll tell you, no frosting included. I actually think I got banned one time for vehemently defending a fact (which, for the record, said defense did break the rules and I understand better now :)) I don't play word games or beat around the bush.

If you don't want to answer a question, there are plenty of other contractors that I can ask who evidently don't feel like they have something to hide.

Do you use your left or right hand for that? [green]

Hadn't heard from you since early December when you were devising a master plan to wash every house in the world for the low, low price of just $299.00 "Act now....this will not be offered in stores!" Here I thought you were in Bermuda counting your millions (sorry.....BILLIONS). For someone with all the work you purport to have amassed, you sure have a lot of time for pallabor on this board. Why don't you go away and let us underlings help each other out with eaking out our meager living in the PW industry. No one is fooled! We took a double secret vote at our double secret clubhouse and the decision was unanimous........... YOU ARE AN [moon]

Happy New Year!!

Now that the fight is over I think the initial post has some merrit. Many automotive service shops use the low price add like $39.99 brake job. In the fine print they list exactly what that includes[ or more like what it doesn't include] . The whole idea is to get the customer to call you!!!! We all know that the guy who ACTUALLY got the job done for $39.99 is the same guy who really wins the PUBLISHER CLEARING HOUSE millions. It is an effective way to generate calls and once you get your foot in their door you can level the real price of all the add ons. I use zillow.com to get a general value of the home. In my market a house worth $350,000 generally can get a standard pressure washing for $350. I can give this general quote on the phone to qualify the customer as to what they were thinking it would cost. I then go to the property and get an on site estimate where I can usually sell additional cleaning such as cleaning the black stains on the gutters and down spouts or additional charges for hard to get to places. In most cases the $350 goes to $400 or $450 you and the customer have a chance to meet or at least you have a phone relationship to keep them from checking other companies. They usually go ahead and schedule the job. Getting the calls with the come on price was the original goal and a proven one at that. The key is turning that in to a profitable job above and beyond the basic cleaning. Additional profit can be generated by pricing the neighbors who respond to your yard signs placed onsite while cleaning or as a referral by the homeowner just slightly higher to recover add costs.
