Bleach

MontiJ, You shouldn't harm your pump. All of the water flow is coming out of the pump, none should go back in. The first thing after your pump outlet is your unloader valve, which does have a bypass that feeds back into the pump inlet. Then you have your chemical injector.

Curious,I'm new and tring to learn what types and how much chemical solution to use. When you are loading your 5 gal tank of cleaning solution, are you mixing 5 gals 12 % liquid clorine and adding approx. 2 1/2 cups of detergent?

MontiJ, Yes thats right. Make sure you have a detergent that has an additive to keep windows from streaking. My detergent is also a degreaser. I had to try many detergents before I found one that would mix well with the 12% chlorine.

Mark, I use a detergent made by a local chemical company. It is called RIDZIT and I pay about $5.00 / gal.

If you find a detergent that has the properties you want, lifts the dirt, gives a little suds to hold the chlorine in place and doesn't streak the windows, I would stay with it. Make sure it mixes well with the 12% chlorine. If it doesn't, the detergent forms little balls, like cottage cheese, on the container bottom and stops up the chemical tube intake.

Rick, I just haven't tried them. If they give the performance you need then I'd stay with them. Do you know what the price is at the quantity needed per gal of chlorine? The RIDZIT (4 ounces) is about 16 cents / gal of chlorine, or $0.80 / 5 gal of chlorine which will do an average house.

Is the use of clorine as effective as bleach in killing mildew, also is it safer than bleach? Also in what type of applications would you use a product referred to as TSP, not sure what this is or what it is used for

Thanks

MontiJ, I'm not a chemist but I think most people use the name chlorine and bleach interchangeably. Chlorine is a bleach but there are other bleaches. When I buy, the label says BLEACH and the active ingrediate is listed as "sodium hypochlorite". You will kill the mildew if you apply it strong enough and let it dwell for a few minutes. It is safe if you don't use it to strong and rinse well.

TSP (tri sodium phosphate), remember I'm not a chemist, but I think of it as a detergent. I'm sure there are others who can give you a better answer than this.
