Was reading AGAIN in Steve Stephens book, "The Pressure Cleaning Bible" this week and read on page 85 about making your mailing piece standout. Steve talks about using different colored envelopes and never printing his company name on an envelope.

Was wondering what everyody does, or suggestions on what to do, to make your mailing piece stand out and make the customer open the envelope?

By the way, to anybody that hasn't gotten a copy of Steve's book, I highly recommend it. I find myslef referring to it often and carrying it with me wherever I go. I keep it in my brief case with all my business stuff. Allison Hester is here on the board and can help you get one ordered

Thanks for your input.

Good Topic Doug.

If you are mailing sales letters then definitely the suggesting that Steve broaches is right on i.a. color envelopes and etc.

What I have found over the last several years is that contractors went the post card route for their mailing preferences.

Something that someone touched base on with another thread is that it appears that the trend is moving again regarding direct mail where mailings that have a personal "tone" to it seem to be getting better response rates vs. email and text advertising. If this is the case then Steve's suggestion(s) falls right into place.

I have the book and really enjoy reading different perspectives about marketing a business and especially the pressure wash business.

Handwritten fonts work great. [see coupon in my signature] Use a live stamp. Never EVER use the bulk meter kind.. I learned from Dan Kennedy to always angle my stamp too.. make it crooked. I often use headlines on the outside of the envelope as well.

If you're doing postcards, don't waste your time with 4 x 6s. Go BIG baby! Don't listen to people about having "white space". White space is for losers who don't know how to advertise :) (I use to use a lot of it...) If there is room on any ad you have going out fill it with either a testimony or a (relevent) picture.

There are just a few things that I hope help somebody a little.

The best way to make it stand out is to send it postage due!.... LOL

I have just recently decided to make up some general estimates for driveway washing in my area, and to hand deliver them. Took a drive and seen which ones were bad and could use cleaing and took down the address. What do yall think, should i leave my card and estimate on door, or knock and talk since im there??

Knock on the door and introduce yourself. Instead of a Business card, hand them a flyer with before and after pics of a driveway. (If you need some pics let me know and I'll email you some) The flyer w pics gives them something to look at as a continual reminder about what you were offering.Nothing beats a firm hamdshake and eye to eye contact. Also have your rig in front of the house so they can see it, shows you mean business.

Door-to-door fellas...I've had HO's walk me to their neighbor's house and make the sale for me. You can't argue with the results of a face-to-face sale. I carry a wheel and blank estimate forms. Almost a 1 in 3 closing when I can get them at the door!!

Also, I'll vouch the PW Bible, I have mine out all the time!

I like the blog Carlos. Had some good info in there. Thanks!! Doug, I was curious too about having my rig with me. But when i go out next weekend im going to be hooked up for sure. Just got to come up with good way to start conversation when the homeowner answers. Cause i know when i see someone at the door i really dont care to answer. (but ya know...thats kinda started to change now, everyone is out there trying to do their thing and make a living. definitely respect that.)
