Question on a Elite Super Skid

Is the tank plumbed directly to the pump or to the float tank? What size line do you have running to it? Have you checked to make that there are no holes in the hose and that the connections are tight? These would be the biggest culprits.
If you are running the tank to the float tank you will need to install a three way valve in the line leading to the pump and have a hose barb on both sides. On should go to the float tank and one should go to the water tank. That way you can choose a city line or to run it off of the tank. IF you need more info or a diagram let me know and I will fax or e-mail one to you.

Scott is right. Check all the fittings and clamps. If there is an inline water screen check it. They all cause alot of problems. Also weak packings and valves cause problems. Also weak hoses will suck flat and restrict flow. 3/4 inch PVC sch 80 pipe is the best way to go. Some machines work better if the water level in the tank is higher than the pump head. And last but not least. Loose belts cause lower performance.

To anyone who can answer....

We just purchased a used Elite super skid within the past few weeks and until today have ran it off a direct feed water supply. Today we ran it off of a 550 gallon water tank and the unit was constantly wanting to cut out (in regards to pressure). It has a B & S Vanguard 16hp motor coupled to a belt driven CAT 55 series pump. Our Tuff unit w/ the general pump runs perfectly off of a tank feed so it sort of baffled me. I checked the draw off the pump and it seems to pull quite a bit of suction at the inlet fitting yet it seems like its starving for water. But hook the garden hose to it a viola.... works perfect.

Baffled in Indiana...

Scott & John,

I have bypassed the float tank completely due to the fact we are running a 550 water tank. Hoses are 3/4 I.d. reinforced rubber going into 3/4 quick couplers. The lines are all water tight and do not colapse at all. Even with the tank topped off at 550 gallons it cuts out. But again with a city supply it runs fine. We checked the inlet screens and they are clean.

Appreciate the assistance,

Greg

You might want to try this. Run water over all of the fittings and filter junctions to make sure there are no air leaks. Also try a little dielectric grease on the joints to make sure there is an air tight seal. How long is the run of hose from the tank to the machine? It could be restricting even if it is a 3/4" line.

Scott and John,

Yur were right that there was a restriction. It was biegn caused by the quick connect fitting on the inlet to the pump. I pulled the fitting off and threaded it straight to the pump and viola.... all works fine. The wierd part is our Tuff skid is capable of pulling enough water through the coupler to supply the machine??!! Beats me....

Thanks.

I have a 3,500 psi @ 5.6 gpm machine. I cannot to this day get the pump to run smooth from a water tank. I used a 1 1/2" hos to a 1" filter to 2-3/4" hoses feeding both sides of the pump and it would still run funky. But if I run it from a float tank with 1/2" hose it runs perfect. Go figure. After 8 months of this I have disconnected the machine permantly and use my trusty 11 hp 3,000 @ 4 direct drive unit. It is the best, most reliable piece of equipment I own. No more hot water skids for me too many problems.

For some reason we have been building alot of 8-10 gpm machines that are pulling from a tank. We have found that both suction ports must be plumbed. The UDOR pumps have twin 3/4" inlets. From the tank we use 1 1/2" sch 80 pvc to a brass wye strainer with a 40 mesh screen. Then we come from the wye strainer with 1" suction hose to each port. If anything smaller the pump seem to pulse alot.

Why Udor instead of General, AR, or Comet?

John, sorry for spelling your name wrong.

I prefer the UDOR because of several things. Service from the company is #1. If you ever get a chance call Tom Johnson at UDOR. They will take the time to help you. Also when you talk to UDOR you talk to the actual people who design the pump. HEAVY DUTY: connecting rods are solid brass and actually bolt together. Rods in the Super Duty series weigh over 2 lbs each. They use larger pistons and longer strokes than most. The seals are a standard metric Parker polypac that is easy to obtain. Parts are very reasonable. First pump we tryed we got on a 90 day test trial with no charge to us. It is still running today after one year any many gallons of caustic soap pulled thru it "not by my choice". They just fill the bill for our use. If we don't use UDOR we use Cat, Giant, General.
