You just do not get it.

It's like talking to a wall. I will put it to you this way on my own personal financial situation.....

I volunteer my time every Thursday and most weekends for Scouting. I have been a Scout Leader since 1995. Every year, I donate my time and money for Christmas in April, I have donated my time and money for several schools in my area due to all the education cuts. Most know of me to give my shirt off my back to help someone out. Can they say that about you ? It does not sound like it.

Besides, what does my so called inheritance have anything to do with the topic ? If it made me a millionaire, yes I would find a way to help a family in need but it did not. Will I continue on my quest to help others ? You bet cha.

Its called compassion for a fellow human being. If you see someone down on their luck, you try to help. Does this mean that every homeless man I see on the street, I give money to ? Absoulutly not. Some of the homeless is by choice but most of it is not.

Try helping someone in need. It is the most rewarding thing you will ever do.

I've helped plenty of people with both time and financially. That's really none of your business...My point wasn't that we shouldn't have compassion and help people who've, for the most part, screwed up their lives in one way or another.

My problem is when it is enforced, and often given to those who really don't deserve it.

Most of the "less fortunate" are in their situation because of the choices they've made, and usually continue to make. Does that mean I refuse to give someone a hand? Of course not...

Just don't assume you know much about me based on a few internet rantings...You know what happens when you assume...it makes an ass out of you and....you. :)

Are you refering to welfare? Or is their another type of handout you are refering to?

Oneness If I read the constitution all I get is my intreption of what the goverments job should be. Since you brought it up I was just wondering what YOU thought the job of the government was.

the whole point of having tranquility, justice, and defense was to promote the general welfare - to allow every state and every citizen of those states to benefit from what the government could provide.

This is the entire quote, referring to the clause in the preamble that says "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

This, and the next part of the Preamble, are the culmination of everything that came before it - the whole point of having tranquility, justice, and defense was to promote the general welfare - to allow every state and every citizen of those states to benefit from what the government could provide. The framers looked forward to the expansion of land holdings, industry, and investment, and they knew that a strong national government would be the beginning of that.

I agree with that statement, depending on what you think the government should be providing.

Mike You agree with that statement.....depending...hmm. that brings us back to my original question. What do YOU think the government should be providing? The interpretation I gave was from the link to the constitution that YOU provided. You DO know what you think and why.. don't you?
